Job Overview:A leading provider of information, products, solutions and services to the Oil and Gas industry seeks a Principal Engineer to lead a highly skilled team of Petroleum and Commercial Engineers.

The Company monitors daily oil and gas exploration, production and transportation activity from around the globe in order to provide critical industry intelligence to major energy producers and national and independent oil companies worldwide. They complement this information with economic, political, fiscal and regulatory analysis and strategic and operational research. By integrating essential information, intuitive software and analytical services worldwide, they help clients better understand their operations and thus reduce operating costs, increase productivity and more effectively evaluate investment opportunities.

The Company has developed a comprehensive suite of decision support software tools that help manage the risk factors involved in all aspects of a field development life cycle. Their cost evaluation systems provide up-to-date regional benchmarks for reserves recovery, technology costs, and infrastructure capacities. This strategic cost management approach can save millions in operating efficiencies and has been relied on by asset managers, engineers and project planners around the world for the last 15 years.

Leading a broad-based team of specialist disciplined Engineers, you will ensure the highest levels of technical authority and credibility, providing in-depth input and support on all process and facilities engineering and structural and civil engineering matters.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious engineer, coming from either a mechanical, process, civil or petroleum engineering background, in field development design, to step into a responsible senior-level position working for a leading Services Company with a global presence.

Responsibilities:Based either in Houston or London and reporting direct to the Product Manager, this role includes a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Be the technical focal point within the company for field development engineering issues
  • Manage and motivate a team of engineers, pulling together a wide range of engineering, geological and cost information to evaluate worldwide oil and gas assets, both onshore and offshore
  • Oversee and manage collection and storage of cost estimates and technical data from oil and gas assets around the world
  • Liaise with clients and with senior management to define and manage documented processes to ensure quality and timely delivery of intelligence such as engineering specifications, cost estimates and technical data.
  • Support Product Management and Product Development teams with technical knowledge and advice where required
  • Working closely with the Product Managers, develop strong relationships with the client base, building a clear understanding of their requirements to make sure product development meets their ongoing needs and that new releases of software and development models are timely, robust and appropriate
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the individual programs and linking workflows within the software suite in order to champion the products within and beyond the Company, giving technical and non-technical presentations to clients and at conferences and symposia; support sales and business development strategies, attending conferences, preparing and presenting technical papers etc.

Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree essential, preferably in a relevant engineering discipline such as Petroleum, Process, or Chemical Engineering, Honours or postgraduate qualifications advantageous
  • At least 10 years experience as an engineer in the oil and gas industry, preferably in a design or planning capacity, with direct practical upstream field development experience essential. Preferably in both onshore and offshore fields
  • Proven record leading and managing small teams of specialist engineers highly advantageous
  • Outstanding knowledge of the Oil Life Cycle and an appreciation of the different disciplines involved, essential
  • Some familiarity with the software development cycle advantageous
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills essential; must be able to convey information and ideas in a clear, non-technical manner that engages the audience and helps them understand the technical issues involved
  • Must be dynamic, assertive and resourceful, with the capacity to weld together a group of highly skilled individuals into an effective team to achieve corporate goals
  • Customer Service focused
  • Willingness to travel essential

Salary:An attractive base salary of $120K - $140K (USD) or £60K - £70K (GBP), as appropriate, plus bonus and Company Benefits is on offer dependent on skills and experience. There may be some flexibility on salary for an outstanding candidate.
