Job Overview: A leading provider of information, products, solutions and services to the Oil and Gas industry seeks a Field Development Cost Engineer.

The Company has developed a comprehensive suite of decision support software tools that help manage the risk factors involved in all aspects of a field development life cycle. Their cost evaluation systems provide up-to-date regional benchmarks for reserves recovery, technology costs, and infrastructure capacities. This strategic cost management approach can save millions in operating efficiencies and has been relied on by asset managers, engineers and project planners around the world for the last 15 years.

Working alongside a team of skilled Petroleum Engineers, you will bring your experience and specialist skills to bear, creating costing analyses for onshore and offshore field development models and life cycle cost estimates for the field development information database.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Cost Engineer with a good practical grasp of Petroleum Engineering to join a leading Services Company with a global presence in an important, responsible role.

Responsibilities:Based either in Houston or London and reporting to the Principal Engineer, this role includes a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Gather and analyse oil field and related cost data on a global basis
  • Develop and maintain capital and operating cost databases, benchmarking cost data at the project and itemized level and providing support on cost database queries
  • Provide detailed cost estimates to help build the field development and life cycle cost models for worldwide oil and gas assets, both onshore and offshore
  • Design novel cost estimation metrics suitable for use in the oil and gas industry and develop the processes for collecting relevant intelligence from the global energy industry
  • Help build a clear understanding of client needs in order to support the sales effort
  • Give technical and non-technical presentations, in support of sales efforts and at conferences and symposia, highlighting the cost estimation process and its impact on long-term planning
  • Work closely with the software development team, providing advice and input on cost estimation issues

Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree essential, preferably in a relevant engineering discipline such as Petroleum, Process, or Chemical Engineering, Honours or postgraduate qualifications advantageous
  • Practical experience as an engineer in the oil and gas industry essential, ideally 5 years or more as a Cost Estimation Engineer, with experience costing offshore facilities particularly helpful
  • Good understanding of Petroleum Economics with a broad-based appreciation of commercial issues in the global energy industry and the entire Oil Life Cycle, advantageous
  • Experience with cost estimation software essential
  • Sales support experience highly advantageous
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills essential; must be able to convey information and ideas in a clear, non-technical manner that engages the audience and helps them understand the technical issues involved
  • Must be a good team player with the capacity to co-operate actively with colleagues to achieve corporate objectives
  • Customer Service focused
  • Willingness to travel essential

Salary:An attractive base salary of $100K - $120K (USD) or £50K - £60K (GBP), as appropriate, plus bonus and Company Benefits is on offer dependent on skills and experience. There may be some flexibility on salary for an outstanding candidate.
