Title: Reservoir Simulation Technical Consultant - EW/WS/609

Location: UK - South East or Aberdeen

Job Status: Permanent

Interview Date:  ASAP

Start Date: ASAP

Open To: All Nationalities

Job Overview: The leading International Products and Services Company in the Oil and Gas industry is seeking a Reservoir Simulation Technical Consultant.

The Company's established software solutions span exploration, production, drilling, business decision analysis and information management. Working closely with one of the world's largest multinational oil and gas producers, the Company has developed a new and innovative software package.

The software allows multiple reservoirs of varying fluids and formulation to be coupled seamlessly and solved as one single fully implicit simulation solution. It solves the surface network simultaneously with the subsurface equation for more stable and accurate full-field models. In addition, its highly flexible coding allows users the option of changing any element within the production chain to estimate their effect on total asset performance. As a result, engineers make better decisions faster, working from a more robust and realistic reservoir simulation.

This technology is now ready to be rolled out to the oil company's offices around the world. With good practical experience of reservoir simulation techniques coupled with a deep understanding of the underlying science, your primary responsibility will be as the technical champion for the new technology, to ensure the roll-out goes smoothly. You will build relationships with the oil company's engineers and geoscientists, becoming in effect part of each asset team, understanding their workflows and the technical constraints and problems they face, and showing them how this new technology can help them overcome these challenges.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a world-leading Oil and Gas Products and Services company, getting in on the ground floor of a new technology that is set to dominate reservoir engineering for the foreseeable future.

Responsibilities: Based either in the South East of England or in Aberdeen and reporting to the UK Business Segment Manager, this role encompasses many functions including:

  • Responsibility for the successful delivery and roll-out of the application to the UK oil client offices
  • Becoming proficient in the application, through appropriate training or spending time with the research and development group in Houston whenever necessary, as appropriate
  • Assisting oil company users in technical aspects of the roll out, e.g. defining requirements, developing and adapting the roll-out strategy for particular circumstances and monitoring progress
  • Providing advice and guidance in all aspects of the operational use of the application, promoting the full workflow capabilities to Reservoir Engineering peers and other Asset Team members and advising them how to get the most from the product in their specific development projects
  • Acting as a champion of the application within the oil company client, increasing awareness of the product and presenting the benefits of the new technology to stakeholders, whether full technical presentations or overviews conveying the essence of the package, in ways that engage the audience and help them understand the technical issues involved
  • Managing training programs required as part of the roll-out
  • Working with the Company's R&D team to identify opportunities to improve the application further, evaluating technical feedback from users and providing personal input

This is a senior and strategic role offering a high level of autonomy leading and managing a significant roll-out program. There is almost unlimited scope for a self-motivated individual with a strong reservoir simulation background to develop and demonstrate management skills. It offers excellent career progression opportunities.

Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant degree essential, preferably in Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering or Economics, with post-graduate qualifications highly advantageous
  • Minimum 8 years oil and gas industry experience essential, preferably at least some of it with an operator
  • Minimum of 5 years experience using, supporting or developing reservoir simulation technologies essential
  • Proven knowledge of and experience working with leading industry reservoir simulation technologies such as VIP, Eclipse, MoreRes, and/or CMG essential
  • Thorough understanding of the 'oil life cycle' and asset team workflows, with a particularly good knowledge of the workflows surrounding reservoir modelling and simulation, essential
  • Previous experience working in a technical, operational or consultancy role in an Exploration & Production discipline(e.g. field development, reservoir management, asset evaluations etc.) highly advantageous
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential as the role requires liaison with all the stakeholders involved in the roll-out, from senior management level through Reservoir Engineering peers to R&D and the software development team
  • First class project management skills, highly organised with excellent co-ordination skills, essential
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently to make things happen - this role calls for an assertive individual with the ability to provide effective leadership, yet a good team worker with a clear ability to co-operate with others to achieve ultimate objectives
  • Must be able to travel, within the UK and internationally

Salary: An attractive salary in the range £65K - £85K (GBP) plus generous Bonus and excellent Company Benefits, is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
