Job Overview: A fast growing, dynamic company developing Windows software for the oil and gas industry, seeks a Business Development Manager to join their sales team, supporting their growing business opportunities in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Company, formed in 1984, was the first company to develop geoscience interpretation tools for Windows NT and continues to lead the industry in PC-based exploration and reservoir management software. Their software is compatible with most industry database systems, with links to OpenWorks, GeoFrame and Openspirit data stores.
As one of the leading providers of PC integrated software suites for exploration, the Company has grown year on year and continues to expand into new markets. Building upon this long-term success, your primary responsibility will be to develop and manage current and new business opportunities within your designated region. You will develop and implement strategic business development plans that will maximize profits and growth opportunities. Business opportunities will be derived from software and training sales primarily.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the General Manager - EAME, you will be expected to:
- Become competent in the Company's full suite of software solutions.
- Become part of the existing sales team, understanding the client base, and sales methodologies used.
- Provide visible and ongoing business development within your agreed region.
- Develop a sales plan and strategy to support your growth targets.
- Identify and build long-term relationships with the key decision makers in each of your accounts.
- Working closely with your clients, understand their technical requirements, constraints, and deadlines and close service contracts that deliver against the clients value propositions.
- Working effectively with the designated marketing agents in your region to exploit and build their market potential.
- Manage all aspects of your sales life cycle, striving for success at each stage to ensure a successful outcome.
- Where possible, you will demonstrate the companies technologies. But as required you will liaise with the Company's technical support team to ensure the successful management of your account activities and gain assistance as required, i.e. presentations, evaluations, training, sales proposals, and after sales follow-up.
- Keep current and provide and communicate accurate and timely sales forecasts.
- Keep abreast of industry and Company software developments and trends. Seek out, analyze and communicate market intelligence. Feedback client recommendations effectively.
- Working with the required personnel within the organisation to devise effective marketing strategies to support your sales plan, to increase awareness and reputation of the Company and solutions offered.
- Liase effectively with staff in the European office and headquarters in Houston, TX.
- Attend trades shows and conferences as required.
- Participate in the regional strategic planning process to provide short, intermediate and long-term business objectives and goals.
With a strong geoscience background and excellent commercial acumen, this role offers great scope and autonomy to be highly successful, working for a rapidly growing oil industry software Company. The Company has a fairly flat organisational structure and success is well rewarded.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Degree in an earth science or business related subject essential. Geophysical background desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years industry experience essential.
- Minimum of 4 years Sales/BDM experience in the oil and gas industry essential.
- Clear understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry and geoscience workflows essential.
- Strong commercial acumen - the ability to devise, monitor, manage and communicate sales plans and forecasts effectively.
- The ability to demonstrate technical solutions, and articulate value propositions to clients essential.
- Experience in using some mainstream geoscience software solutions desirable (e.g. Kingdom, Landmark, Geoquest software).
- Strong interpersonal skills - with the ability to develop good working relationships with clients essential.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills as you will participate in executive level meetings with clients.
- Enthusiasm and drive to keep abreast of new trends and technologies in this market.
- Dynamic, self-motivated individual who is proactive to achieve and exceed targets. Strong team player who can work with all levels within the company to accomplish goals.
- Adaptable and enthusiastic, and highly flexible.
- Multilingual skills a plus.
- Availability to travel domestically and internationally
Package: An attractive base salary of £40K - £65K (GBP) plus commission giving a potential of an on target earning (OTE) of £70K-£120K per annum plus Company Benefits is on offer, dependent on skills and experience. Role offers a great working dynamic environment.
