Job Overview: A global provider of cutting-edge seismic imaging technologies, services, and solutions for the oil & gas industry, seeks a Manager for their Seismic Processing Center in Angola.

They are recognised as the leaders in advanced seismic processing for land and marine data. They lead the development and usage of advanced marine imaging techniques in key areas such as de-multiple techniques, velocity modeling, PreSDM, and sub-salt imaging.

Their integrated service approach, which includes the entire seismic process, significantly reduces the risk and cost of finding and producing petroleum and has earned them a high reputation and a growing client base. Due to this success, their established seismic processing centre in Luanda, is expanding and hence the need for this position.

They are committed to providing accurate seismic images and their solutions include seismic acquisition, pre-migration time processing, pre-stack time and depth imaging, 4D, multi-component and attribute analysis of seismic data.

With a strong technical processing background, you will be responsible for the operational management of the Luanda processing centre. With a hands on approach, you will manage the day-to-day activities of data processing projects, whilst providing a technical lead where required in complex processing projects. You will liaise with clients in determining the project requirements, assist in the preparation of bid proposals and ensure quality and timely delivery of the service to the clients. You will supervise a team of processing geophysicists managing multiple service projects.

The Company invite applicants from a strong technical background with a desire to technically lead and manage a processing centre. The Company are committed to providing full support and training in their managerial processes and practices. Training will take place in the UK and US.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Regional Manager EAME, this role encompasses many functions including:

  • Supervise/lead the day-to-day seismic processing operations of the Centre.
  • Liase with clients to identify and understand their technical requirements, constraints, and deliverables etc.
  • Manage the preparation of bid proposals for services, detailing and communicating clearly the service level agreements to be adhered to.
  • Scope processing projects, ensuring that resources are identified, available and tasked appropriately.
  • Processing workflow design - define processing workflow to deliver optimum service.
  • Participate in complex processing projects, providing a technical lead where required.
  • Manage all aspects of delivering service projects to clients, ensuring that a high level of customer satisfaction is achieved.
  • Resource planning - schedule the workload of your team to deliver the services required for your projects. Identify skill gaps, and hire and develop staff for future growth.
  • Mentoring - ongoing coaching of project geophysicists.
  • Be proactive in visiting clients. Identify key contacts in all client account and nurture and build and develop relationships. Become trusted advisor to key clients.
  • Assist in identifying and developing business opportunities within the regional client base.
  • Assist the Sales Manager in tender responses and in account engagements to provide processing expertise needed to sell a compelling seismic processing vision and value proposition.
  • Assist in the development of a regional plan for building a profitable Seismic Processing Centre business.
  • Participate in regional marketing activities (conferences, trade shows, direct marketing) that will increase awareness and reputation of the company business.
  • Forecast processing revenues and delivery of processing projects.
  • Manage external partnerships relationships as required.
  • Become regional focal point for Company for centre.
  • Be proactive in improving service delivery and general operations of the centre.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • An Earth Science or related degree essential, preferably in Geophysics
  • A minimum of 10 years industry experience essential.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in the seismic processing business essential, experience of specialized seismic processing (e.g. Pre-stack imaging, amplitude preservation AVO attributes) advantageous.
  • Experience in processing 3D Marine data essential. Some experience in land processing advantageous.
  • Proven experience in using mainstream industry processing application such as Promax, Focus, GeoVecteur, Omega, GeoDepth etc. essential.
  • Proven managerial or supervisory or team leader experience, delivering seismic processing services highly advantageous.
  • Hands on, 'sleeves rolled up approach' essential.
  • Experience or ability to lead a team dedicated to providing advanced seismic processing and imaging solutions essential.
  • Self motivated individual, with entrepreneurial attitude and drive to succeed essential
  • Experience in managing and developing 3rd party partnerships advantageous.
  • Strong business intuition and judgment with an open mind to new work practices and business models advantageous.
  • Proven project management skills -the ability to prioritize competing demands, focus, and make decisions.
  • Excellent man management skills - team player with the ability to accurately assess and appraise people skills and capabilities
  • Strong networking experience/capability. Excellent client facing skills the ability to liaise with clients effectively at all levels and development client relationships.
  • Previous of experience of working in Africa highly advantageous. Strong cultural awareness.
  • Team player with persuasive/assertive personality that can provide leadership and direction.
  • Previous P&L accountability advantageous.
  • Highly service orientated.
  • Portuguese language advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel.
