Job Overview: A large, privately held Exploration and Production Company is seeking a Senior Geophysicist to join their 'North Sea Team' to identify and quantify future prospects in the North Sea.

The Company headquartered in the USA, is one of the top 20 E & P companies in the US, and operates several thousand wells globally. Established for more than 35 years, and with a strong portfolio of producing assets throughout North America, the Company continues to strengthen their international business objectives through further growth in the North Sea.

The Company has non-operated interests in several North Sea blocks in the Moray Firth including a recent discovery and is currently involved in an ongoing multi well exploration and appraisal programme. In addition the company is actively working on several business development opportunities in the Central North Sea.

Responsibilities:Reporting to the Senior UK Manager, you will be responsible for allocated geophysical functions required to deliver the company's North Sea business objectives. The key deliverables are:

  • Identify and generate new prospects for exploration and production.
  • Interpret geophysical data (e.g. seismic volumes, attributes, gathers, etc.) and integrate with geological and engineering data in support of regional exploration and prospect development.
  • Assess risks, quantify and communicate you professional conclusions based on the interpretation. to team members and management.
  • Recommends processing or re-processing of geophysical data as needed.
  • Recommend geophysical data as required and assist in the acquisition design.
  • Collaborate with other geophysical staff, peers and managers on acquisition and utilization of geophysical hardware and software and special projects.
  • Keep abreast of new advanced geophysical developments within the industry, transferring knowledge to others.
  • Provide geophysical support to other Company groups as required.
  • Build relationships with key personnel of equity asset partners. Communicate effectively with them.
  • Constantly monitor and appraise industry activities in relation to new license rounds, farm-in's, and new deals etc.
  • Be actively involved in relevant industry events, trade shows, conferences.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced geophysicist who can evaluate prospects and assess and communicate the risks effectively. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Geology or Geophysics essential, post-graduate qualification(s) highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience, at least 5 of which in a similar role essential, preferably working for an operator.
  • An established track record in finding commercial hydrocarbons essential.
  • Experienced in UK North Sea analysis essential - preferably Central N.S.
  • Proven experience in regional stratigraphic and structural interpretations essential.
  • Significant competencies as a geologist highly advantageous.
  • An understanding of basic reservoir engineering principals, basic drilling principles and geophysical fundamentals including seismic interpretation essential.
  • Strong business acumen, including prospect risk evaluation, reserves assessment, and petroleum economics essential.
  • Excellent networker - can develop and nurture professional relationships.
  • A highly motivated team member, with outstanding analytical abilities and able to work with little supervision within a dynamic environment
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to articulate project ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must be able to develop and nurture professional relationships with individuals and companies active within the geographic areas
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills - with an enthusiasm for communicating ideas and results to internal groups and external partners, government bodies, etc.
  • Willing to travel overseas and offshore.

Package: A base salary in the region of £80K or more for an exceptional candidate, plus an individual performance bonus program paying up to 50%, plus benefits package (BUPA cover, pension, life assurance, car allowance etc.), plus membership of an "Asset Appreciation Rights Scheme" which can deliver substantial additional benefits to a successful employee.
