Job Overview: A Company established in 1986 providing earth science mapping and exploration technologies seeks a Pre-Sales/Training Support Specialist to support their growing UK and European business.

The role would suit either an individual with some relevant experience OR someone with an Earth science or GIS background and a keen desire to succeed this role. The Company is fully committed to providing all the technical training required and support for an ambitious individual. Travel is an integral part of this role, so a desire to travel is key.

The company is headquartered in Canada, with offices in South America, Europe, South Africa and Australia and a partner network providing coverage throughout the US, Russia, India and China etc. Their established software simplifies geospatial data access and analysis for improved understanding, knowledge development and business decision-making in industries such as mineral exploration, oil and gas, government, and in environmental investigations. Their suite of software covers mapping, visualisation of subsurface drillhole and borehole data, ArcGIS tools, and tools to deliver and access large geoscientific datasets via the Internet or Intranet. They have over 5,000 customers in over 100 countries worldwide and are expanding.

Once trained in the Company's technologies, your key responsibilities will be in supporting the Business Team in the delivery of training course and pre-sales activities.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Regional Business Manager for EAME, you will take on more responsibility relating to the following areas as you progress in your role: Training (estimated 40% of your time)

  • Become competent in the Company's software suite and knowledgeable of new developments and third party partner products.
  • Once trained in Company technologies, coordinate and deliver high quality demonstrations and training, primarily within Europe, Africa and the Middle East, using existing training materials and tailoring sessions to meet the needs of clients.
  • Provide examples of the relevant software features to clients, maximizing learning objectives and increasing their knowledge base.
  • Following training courses, communicate client feedback to the Business teams. This may be progress reports, leads for new business opportunities.
  • Provide internal technical training on new releases and new products or enhancements as required.
  • Work with Technical Services team to support and guide the transfer of knowledge internally and externally to clients. Promote effective technical feedback between all relevant groups.
  • Assist with the creation of technical notes and the development of training materials, ensuring that users can step through the learning that they require in adopting software solutions.
  • The Company is looking at further developing their online training capabilities and you will contribute to devising these strategies and the materials required.
  • Business Support: (estimated 60% of your time)
  • Provide sales assistance to regional office Account Executives in the form of software demonstrations, client visits and relationship building.
  • Accompany Account Executives to client sites, providing technical expertise and support as directed by the Regional Business Manager.
  • Work with the Global Solutions Group to manage client relationships in a proactive manner, gaining an understanding of the full business and technical relationship in order to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Forward potential business opportunities that arise from client contact to the appropriate Account Executive.
  • Support the Marketing Team, by assisting in the generation of case studies and technical marketing and communications materials.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in an earth science discipline, such as geology, geophysics or GIS essential. Geology background advantageous.
  • Work experience in the fields of geology, geophysics or GIS is a definite asset, but a strong academic background with the desire to succeed in this role key.
  • Understanding of GIS or Geological related technologies and solutions highly desirable.
  • Ability to actively listen and respond to questions from users in a manner that fosters understanding essential.
  • The interpersonal skills, confidence and ability to interface professionally with a wide spectrum of clients essential.
  • Ability to learn Company's product portfolio and to clearly and concisely communicate technical presentations to potential and existing client base essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting demands effectively under tight time constraints
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends and technologies in the market.
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced global environment, both independently and in a cross functional team environment.
  • Professional and friendly customer service orientated.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to communicate at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Reliable with a high degree of energy and initiative.
  • French or other European Languages highly advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Package: An attractive Base Salary of £25K - £35K (GBP) plus company benefits is on offer dependent on skills and experience. There may be some flexibility in salary for a high calibre candidate.
