Job Overview:
A vibrant and dynamic Company who is a global energy leader with an exciting future are looking for a Team Lead for their technical data management activities.
Since the mid-1990s, the company has been developing network and web-based systems to resolve large and complex data management issues, for petrophysicists, geologists and engineers in the upstream oil and gas industry.
The Company is one of Canada's largest energy companies. They explore for, develop, produce and market crude oil, natural gas and power. They have built a strong strategic presence within various North American regional and global markets. Their London office manages key assets in the North Sea, where they are a significant regional player within both exploration and production.
The UK's Information Systems Group comprises functions such as Data Management, Information Management, Technical Systems, etc. Reporting to the Manager of Technical Systems, your main responsibility will be to coordinate all data management activities and services provided by the team.
Responsibilities:The Technical Systems team consists of 5 personnel and as Team Lead your role encompasses many functions including:
- Provide oversight and planning and coordination of all data management services for the UK and Norway.
- Be proactive in developing effective data management processes and procedures that meet the changing requirements of the business units.
- Active 'hands on' data management such as seismic and well data loading where required
- Provide leadership within your team, motivating team members to achieve goals. Support their contributions and efforts.
- Actively transfer knowledge within the team, and other stakeholders of data management services.
- Recognise skill gaps within the team and liaise with relevant personnel to bridge all relevant skill gaps.
- Plan resources to meet the data management service requirements.
- Maintain close cooperation with the data management group in Calgary is also required.
- Be actively involved with the development of a GIS solution and ongoing support.
- Maintain strong relationships with the business units geoscience community, fully understanding their data management needs, challenges and constraints.
- Maintain strong working relationships with relevant personnel connected with CDA (UK oil & gas data store), DISKOS (Norway data store) and DBERR/DEAL/UK Oil and Gas.
- Keep abreast of all regulatory data compliance matters.
This role offers a great deal of scope and variety, for an individual with a strong seismic and well data management background, who has strong analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal relationship skills. Working for an expanding oil company, the role offers the opportunity to take on more of the day to day operational data management tasks and become involved in defining and influencing corporate data management strategies.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Degree in GIS, Geography, Geology or a closely related discipline essential.
- Extensive knowledge of geoscience data management practices and delivery of data management solutions.
- Strong service focus - the ability to ensure that data services are delivered effectively across all relevant groups essential.
- Previous experience in the delivery of data management services essential. For example; coordinating DM activities; planning DM resources; managing the interface with the business units to deliver services to meet changing and conflicting priorities; interfacing with third parties and regulatory bodies.
- Some experience of loading seismic and well data essential. Preferably to Landmark OpenWorks and SeisWorks systems.
- Experience with GIS systems highly advantageous (e.g. ArcGIS Mapinfo, NitroView)
- Knowledge of national data repositories and compliance regulations essential. Knowledge of CDA, DISKOS, and/or DBERR/DEAL/UK Oil & Gas highly desirable.
- Extensive experience working with geology, geophysics, seismic, and/or reservoir engineering datasets essential.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to interact with internal and external groups.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, and high quality of service.
- Knowledge of and experience working with EDMS system 'Livelink' would be beneficial.
Package: : An attractive Base Salary of £40K - £60K plus benefits is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
