Job Overview: A vibrant and dynamic Company who is a global energy leader with an exciting future are looking for a GIS Analyst for their technical data management activities.

The Company is one of Canada's largest energy marketing companies. They explore for, develop, produce and market crude oil, natural gas and power. They have built a strong strategic presence within various North American regional and global markets. Their London office manages key assets in the North Sea, where they are a significant regional E&P player.

With a strong background in GIS and working closely with the Calgary GIS Group, your primary responsibilities are to identify opportunities for the use of GIS within the business and then to promote and support this use of ArcGIS by the exploration users. This is a new role that has been created to support a growing need and is expected to evolve dependant on the aptitude of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:The Technical Systems team consists of 5 personnel and your role encompasses many functions including:

  • Initially to work with Exploration to organise and manage the spatial data
  • Participate in the design and implementation of a GIS strategy.
  • Foster and promote effective GIS processes and procedures to deliver accurate and reliable geographic data to exploration users.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the business units geoscience community, fully understanding their GIS data management needs, challenges and constraints.
  • Provide GIS related end user support and training to business users in the UK and Norway (e.g. data management, mapping, projection systems,)
  • Implement and maintain Geodatabase management software including AreSDE and provide database administration
  • Maintain metadata for all spatial data.

This role is ideal for an individual with strong analytical and problem solving skills and can demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal relationship skills. Working for an expanding oil company, the role offers a great deal of variety and scope to expand your GIS technical hands-on capabilities and your GIS strategic planning expertise.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Geomatics Engineering or a closely related discipline essential.
  • 2 years related GIS experience essential.
  • Previous experience working in the Oil and Gas industry with geoscience applications or geoscience data repositories highly advantageous.
  • Extensive knowledge of GIS, data conversion (import/export between various scientific applications) and office productivity software including ArcGIS, and MS Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) essential.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and analysis software essential preferably Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, and 3D Analyst.
  • Working knowledge of map projections, datums, and transformations; must be able to verify data accuracy.
  • Previous experience in implementing and maintaining Geodatabase management software preferred. (preferably AreSDE.)
  • Experience with graphics software.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to interact with internal and external groups.
  • An assertive individual with the ability to work independently, take initiative and achieve goals.
  • Strong service delivery focus, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction, and high quality of service.

Package: : An attractive Contract Day Rate of £250-£400 is on offer dependent on skills and experience. Although this is a contract position initially, there is potential that it may be converted to a permanent role if desired.
