Job Overview:
A growing oil Company seeks a Head of Development Geology to take responsibility for coordinating and integrating exploration and field development activities within their Egyptian Joint Venture Company.
The JV Company who is managing the license, consists of personnel from an established privately owned oil company, a major multinational and the state oil authority. The JVC Company has approximately 200 staff, with different levels of commercial, technical, operational and management skills and experience.
As a seasoned professional you will take primary responsibility for coordinating and integrating the geoscience aspects within this Joint Venture Company with Reservoir Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. This will include overseeing exploration for new drillable prospects and the development of the geological framework and reservoir models leading to reservoir simulation and field development planning within existing producing fields.

Job Responsibilities: This senior role within the JV encompasses many functions including:
- Take responsibility for the integration of geoscience with the reservoir and petroleum engineering aspects of field development.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with the licensing authority personnel, professionals working within the JV, and the senior E&P decisions makers at the state oil company.
- Co-ordinate operations with the company's headquarters and be a principal point of contact for G&G communications with partners.
- Build a close and co-operative relationship between geoscience, reservoir engineering, production technology, petrophysical and well engineering staff.
- Participate in complex field development planning and support these activities with highly developed uncertainty/risk mitigation management skills.
- Lead the G&G aspects of development well planning and execution.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary/multi-cultural team of professionals.
- Ensure the smooth implementation of your exploration plan, monitoring and controlling the progress.
- Keep abreast of current technology trends and practices relevant to exploration and field activities.
With the ability to lead and develop a multi-disciplinary/multi-cultural team, this is an exciting and challenging role for a diplomatic individual, with relevant geosciences and field development experience. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Degree level essential - preferably in a Geology discipline.
- Strong technical background within an operator environment and 15 years minimum experience in hands on development / production geology essential.
- Minimum of 5 years in a team lead or senior level position essential.
- Proven oil and gas finder (generator of quality prospects) highly advantageous.
- Strong development/production geology skills including static reservoir modelling and well planning and execution skills (particularly horizontal drilling) highly advantageous.
- Experience in reservoir characterisation utilising sequence stratigraphy, structural framework analysis and production data integration essential.
- Familiarity with reservoir parameter analysis (resistively, porosity, permeability etc) within laminated sand shale sequences essential.
- Experience within shallow marine depositional environments essential
- Experience at a senior level in development, well planning and execution (including high angle / horizontal wells) essential.
- Practical experience in uncertainty analysis, geostatistics and value of information assessment essential.
- Previous experience working in Egypt or/and North Africa/ Middle East essential. (Egypt experience desired).
- Experience working with Joint Venture partners essential.
- Crisis management skills and ability to work under pressure essential.
- Strong Leadership/Management skills essential.
- Ability to supervise, coordinate and manage the disciplines of an exploration team and an integrated reservoir a management team.
- Strong project management skills - eye for detail, especially to deadlines, and meeting objectives essential.
- Highly diplomatic and trustworthy, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relations with Governmental officials, Partners and personnel at all levels within the joint venture is essential.
- Previous experience working with licensing authorities advantageous.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, ability to adjust to different cultural environments.
- Outgoing personality, flexible approach, perceptive.
- Driven, self-starter and highly motivated.
- Verbal and written English language proficiency essential. Working knowledge of Arabic a major asset.
- Excellent computer user.
Package: This is a senior level position and as such an attractive package is being offered. Depending on skills and experience, the candidate could expect a Base Salary of $150K - $170K USD plus an attractive bonus. Full expatriate benefits and allowances on offer where applicable.
