Job Overview: Our client, the oil operator Chevron, is seeking an exceptional graduate to enter onto their fast-track graduate development programme in the role of Geoscience Application Analyst, based in their Aberdeen office. This role is ideal for a graduate OR an individual who has a less than 2 years work experience. The role is fully supported with immense scope for career progression.

They are engaged in every aspect of the oil & gas industry, ranging from exploration and production, manufacturing, marketing and transportation, chemicals manufacturing and sales, geothermal to power generation. They also invest heavily in renewables and cutting-edge technologies.

This role is within the Technical Computing Team, which is part of Chevron's Energy Technology Company, serving Chevron's operating companies worldwide. This computing team specialises in high performance computing and information management, primarily for the Earth Science, Reservoir Engineering, Production & Drilling domains.

Working with the geosciences team and being closely mentored, you will develop the skills required to provide technical & application support for interpretation, simulation, information & application workflows. As you progress in this role you will also be expected to provide this support to geoscientists and engineers working at international locations, typically by telephone or electronic method of communication although site visits will be also required.

Full training will be provided to help you develop an in-depth knowledge of the geological & geophysical applications and their integrated workflows and the necessary IT skills.

Responsibilities: Reporting to Technical Computing Site Lead and having successfully completed the requisite training, you will be expected to:

  • Provide accurate and timely support to global geoscience and engineering teams, to assist with the resolution of their technical problems (potentially related to applications configurations, system performance, data quality or technical workflows).
  • Working closely with these teams, you will provide support predominately face-to-face but will also use phone and electronic means of communication where required. Site visits will be required from time to time to support international teams.
  • Coordinate the planning and installation of software updates and manage the licences and administration of the core applications and associated data architecture.
  • Efficiently prioritise technical support requests based on the issues presented and escalate where necessary.
  • Conduct appropriate diagnostic procedures to determine issues.
  • Liaise with other support team members to resolve larger issues (locally and through the global networks).
  • Follow up ongoing support issues to ensure prompt resolution and client satisfaction.
  • Log all call incidents into the call tracking software.
  • Adopt the operational excellence approach to your work (Exceeding expectations, ensuring system reliability, efficiency & safety).
  • Utilise your knowledge gained in the Graduate Career Programme in your job.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong first degree in Earth Science discipline is essential with Masters/PhD preferred.
  • Knowledge of geoscience applications (e.g. Petrel, OpenWorks, OpenSpirit, Kingdom, etc), IT support or data management within the professional or academic arena would be advantageous although extensive training and mentoring will be provided.
  • Knowledge of Windows/Linux/Unix 64bit Operating systems advantageous
  • Understanding of computer system methods, processes and research tools desirable.
  • Highly developed analytical and trouble-shooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve client issues.
  • Customer-focused attitude with a high regard for service delivery.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise conflicting demands effectively under tight time constraints
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, both independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, essential.
  • Confident and self reliant - the ability to resolve technical queries effectively.
  • Self-motivated, able to act independently with minimum supervision while remaining a strong team player.
  • Adaptable, flexible and enthusiastic.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism required for a good cultural fit.
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Package: An attractive salary circa £30K - £32K (GBP) per year is on offer, dependent on skills and experience, plus excellent benefits.
