Job Overview: Our Client is a major integrated international energy company engaged in exploration and production; oil sands mining; integrated gas; and refining, marketing and transportation

You will carry out thorough prospect evaluations and risk mitigation through an analysis of all petroleum system elements. Responsibilities may further include operational duties associated with drilling and evaluation into the field appraisal phase.

You will have close interaction and collaboration with other team members and the Exploration Services and Reservoir Characterization Groups to ensure an integration of all data (AVO, depth imaging, regional and well data) is accomplished in completing evaluations.

Capable of independent action and judgment, you will apply your skills and knowledge to support and make critical and timely decisions, and communicate technical project results clearly and concisely.

Responsibilities: This role encompasses many functions including:

  • Carries out thorough prospect evaluations, integrating both geologic and geophysical data.. This will entail risk mitigation considering all petroleum system elements.
  • Works with other team members and multi-discipline groups to ensure that knowledge is shared and all elements of the petroleum system are appropriately considered and evaluated.
  • Assist team in preparing and making presentations to management, partners and government representatives.
  • Clearly communicate and document project results and recommendations.
  • Stay abreast of new technology and apply it appropriately in meeting the group's objectives.
  • Interface with all necessary internal groups and organizations to apply best practices to opportunity recommendations.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced staff as necessary.
  • Represent the Company's interest in dealing with partners, vendors and competitors.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships within the industry and with other organizations and individuals to expand professional knowledge and develop useful source contacts.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in an earth science discipline (major discipline geophysics) essential. MSc preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years industry experience essential.
  • Experience in prospect evaluations and risk mitigation essential.
  • Multi-disciplined - the ability and experience of evaluating both geological and geophysical data essential.
  • Experience in using industry standard software of G&G evaluations essential - preferably Landmark Interpretation suite, 3D Visualization (VoxelGeo or Geoprobe).
  • Computer proficiencies required: Intermediate PC skills are required in Microsoft desktop suites.
  • Be able to demonstrate a history and ability to contribute in a team environment essential.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to converse at all levels.
  • Ability to represent Company's interest to partners, vendors and competitors.
