Job Overview: Our Client is a major integrated international energy company engaged in exploration and production; oil sands mining; integrated gas; and refining, marketing and transportation.

This position will be required to process, interpret, and map complex structures in the various areas of exploration. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical leadership and coordination of subsalt projects, applying new and leading edge interpretation methods, advanced processing techniques, and their significant industry experience as part of an integrated team environment.

As an experienced Geophysicist with a full range of interpretation techniques, you will develop prospects beneath salt and in structurally complex areas. You will be familiar with pre-processing techniques for effective imaging, velocity model building and iterative updating.

Capable of independent action and judgment, you will apply your skills and knowledge to support and make critical and timely business decisions, and communicate technical project results clearly and concisely.

You will have close interaction and collaboration with industry vendors, internal support organizations, and joint venture partners.

Responsibilities: This role encompasses many functions including:

  • Develop 3D interpretation and mapping of salt and subsalt features, including salt tectonic reconstructions
  • Provide interpretation for depth imaging projects. Participate in depth imaging modeling, processing, and velocity model building.
  • Utilize 3D interpretation and visualization (VoxelGeo and Geoprobe) technology to aid in the formulation of interpretations.
  • Consult on other Worldwide Exploration projects and serve on various peer review groups.
  • Mentor junior/less experienced staff.
  • Participate in the negotiation of data purchase and processing contracts. Participate in the quality control and direction of external contractors performing seismic services.
  • Develop and maintain Industry/Professional relationships

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in an earth science discipline (major discipline Geology, Geophysics, or Physics) essential. MSc preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years subsalt exploration experience essential.
  • Proven track record of play analysis, prospect generation, and successful drilling results essential.
  • Strong geophysical interpretation techniques with the ability to interpret within a geologic framework.
  • Experience with and an understanding of current and leading edge imaging technology, its benefits, and its limitations essential.
  • Familiar with pre-processing techniques for effective imaging, velocity model building and iterative updating.
  • Familiar with the full range of depth conversion methodologies, 2D and 3D acoustic and elastic modeling, and seismic illumination technology.
  • Experience with borehole geophysics including the use of Vertical Seismic Profiles for near well imaging highly desired.
  • Previous experience using geophysical industry software essential (e.g. Landmark Interpretation suite, 3D Visualization (VoxelGeo or Geoprobe).
  • Experience using Promax and/or Geodepth highly desired.
  • Be able to demonstrate a history and ability to contribute in a team environment essential.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to converse at all levels.
