Experienced Ecologist


My client is a well-established environmental consultancy who specialise in the delivery of ecology, arboriculture and landscape planning services to both public and private sector clients. This business pride themselves on providing high quality, affordable services to complex and challenging projects across the UK, working closely with clients through all stages of the process. My client work in sectors including residential and rural developments, leisure, commercial, education and transport. Due to continued growth and success, my client is seeking a highly motivated Experienced Ecologist to join the team in Oxfordshire.


Applying for the position of Experienced Ecologist, you will:

  • Be highly motivated, confident and ambitious
  • Have a degree in an environmental or ecological discipline and ideally a post graduate qualification such as a Masters or PhD
  • Have approximately five years' post graduate experience working within the ecological consultancy sector
  • Be a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or eligible for membership
  • Have extensive field work experience, such as Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and Protected Species Surveys and will be able to organise and lead such surveys
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to produce high quality tenders and reports, such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
  • Hold at least one Protected Species Licence, ideally a GCN or bat licence

**Strong botanical skills and good knowledge of the planning process are also desirable for this position**


Working as an Experienced Ecologist, you will undertake a variety of field work including Protected Species Surveys, Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Protected Species scoping and reporting. You will work alongside colleagues from a range of professions within the team, including landscape architects and arboricultural consultants on a variety of challenging projects. You will be required to liaise with a large number of clients, maintaining excellent working relationships.

Your role will also involve producing written reports and documents to the highest possible standards, including Ecological Impact Assessments and Ecological Appraisals. You will be involved with mitigation work and EPS licencing, project management and team management. All work will be carried out with the client in mind, providing them with support throughout the planning and licensing process.
