Senior Ecologist

My client, a well-established independent ecological consultancy, is looking to recruit a talented Senior Ecologist to join their Newcastle office. This organisation specialises in the provision of expert technical services from Baseline Surveys including protected species, bird and habitat surveys to Consultancy Services including Ecological Impact Assessment, Habitat Management and Expert Witness. My client provides innovative solutions to challenging and exciting projects in the public sector, for residential and commercial developments and to the solar energy and onshore wind sectors. This business pride themselves on working closely with clients throughout their project, ensuring they receive the advice and guidance to fully assess their next steps.

Requirements

* Strong academic background, with BSc and/or MSc in a relevant discipline
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrable experience of producing ecological reports to a high standard
* Extensive experience working within the ecological consultancy sector
* A technical specialism and/or a protected species licence. E.g. bat, GCN, dormouse
* Confidence liaising with a wide and varied client group
* Experience leading a team and managing ecological projects, both small and large scale
* A genuine enthusiasm for ecology and a willingness to make a difference in this exciting and engaging field
* An in-depth knowledge of current UK wildlife legislation and the planning system
* High levels of motivation and an organised approach to work
* A full, clean driving licence

Responsibilities

Working as a Senior Ecologist, you will carry out and oversee a range of challenging projects, acting as a key point of contact for clients. You will plan and oversee survey work, including phase 1 and botanical surveys, protected species surveys and bird surveys. You may be required to work unsociable hours as appropriate to the nature of the work being undertaken. You will also be involved with the management of various projects, assisting with the delivery of high quality services to clients. You will support more junior members of the team, providing advice and support when necessary.

Your duties will also include the production of a range of technical reports, ensuring excellent technical content and overall English. You will maintain excellent working relationships with clients as well as identifying opportunities for follow-up work. Further to this, you will effectively liaise with clients and colleagues and will ensure you represent yourself in a professional, helpful and friendly manner.
