Consultant Ecologist

My client is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy who provide high quality ecology and arboriculture services to client projects throughout the UK. My client pride themselves on their ability to work closely with clients on complex projects from design stage right through to site delivery. This organisation has a highly talented ecology team who provide professional advice on projects within the rail, residential development, highways, commercial development, power and water sectors. Due to the fast approaching survey season and an increase in workload, this business is seeking a motivated Consultant Ecologist to join the team in Essex.


The desired candidate will have a degree in an ecological or environmental discipline and ideally a postgraduate qualification. You will have at 2-3 years’ experience working within the ecological consultancy sector and will be highly competent carrying out a range of fieldwork including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Protected Species Surveys and mitigation work. The ideal candidate will hold, or be working towards, at least one Protected Species Licence, e.g. bat, GCN, dormouse, barn owl. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or eligibility for membership is also desirable, but not essential.

You will have excellent communication skills and be confident liaising with a wide and varied client group on a broad range of projects. You will have experience managing projects and will be comfortable working on all stages of project delivery. To be considered for this role, you will have experience producing high quality ecological reports and documents, such as proposals, baseline ecological reports, ecological appraisals, ES chapters and desk study assessments.


Working as a Consultant Ecologist, your role will include:

* Providing specialist advice to clients on all aspects of their project
* Preparing and carrying out protected species and phase 1 habitat surveys
* Producing well written technical reports and documents
* Ensuring best standards of practice and service
* Liaising with clients internally and externally
* Working within the ecology team, providing support for more junior members when needed
