Senior Ecologist

My client is an independent environmental planning and design consultancy who specialise in the provision of high quality ecology, landscape, archaeology and arboriculture services. Working within sectors including commercial and leisure, education, urban regeneration, energy and infrastructure, this organisation work on a wide variety of exciting and innovative projects. With the survey season fast approaching and many new projects to work on, my client is actively seeking a Senior Ecologist to join the team and to be based in their Shropshire office.

Key Responsibilities

* Preparing fee proposals, ensuring all aspects of the client’s brief is met to the highest standard
* Carrying out and overseeing a range of complex projects, acting as the key point of contact for clients
* Managing and assisting other project managers within the company in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects
* Producing and second reading a range of technical reports, ensuring excellent technical content and overall English
* Undertaking ecological surveying when required, involving unsociable hours as appropriate to the nature of the work being undertaken
* Maintaining excellent client relationships as well as acquiring new business for the company
* Liaising with internal and external project teams, attending meetings when necessary

Key Requirements and Experience

* An ecology related degree and ideally post-graduate qualification such as a Masters or PhD
* Extensive experience carrying out Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and Protected Species Surveys
* Experience working with a wide range of species, including bats, badgers, otters, GCN, dormice and crayfish
* At least two protected species licences, ideally Class 2 Bat Licence and GCN
* Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
* Demonstrable ability to produce high quality technical reports and documents, e.g. mitigation strategies, EIA chapters, EcIA and EPS licences
* Ability to liaise with a range of clients, verbally and in writing
* Experience providing advice to clients, internal teams and project teams
* Knowledge of current UK policy and legislation
* Experience with tendering, invoicing, costing and fee proposals
