Highways Designer

Qualification - Ideally you will hold a degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering

Experience - You should have a minimum of 1 years relevant highways design experience

The Company:

My client is offering an experienced Highways Design Engineer the opportunity to join their talented highway team. They have a highly successful highways design team split into three divisions these being, Renewal’s, Improvement and Asset Management. The highways design team based in Wakefield look after highways improvement schemes, they undertake scheme identification studies and designs of highway improvement set up schemes up to a value of £1M.

Duties / Responsibilities:

As a highways design engineer with some experience already gained you can expect your duties to include;

  • Detailed highways design working to the highways agency standards

  • Preparation of contract drawings and documents

  • Preparation of reports and design studied

  • Reporting to team leader

  • Providing justification of schemes

  • Undertaking visual inspections

  • Taking off quantities and building up estimates

  • Consultation with third parties

  • Client Liaison

  • Discussion with contractors

Typical Projects:

  • You will find your self working on a range of highways improvement schemes up to a value of £1M. This will be for both public and private sector clients although the main bulk of the work will be for the highways agency.

About You:

  • Ideally you will hold a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as civil / structural engineering

  • You should have a minimum of 1 year’s relevant highway design experience

  • It is essential that you have experience in using AutoCAD and MX

  • You should have a good working knowledge of the highways agency standards and procedures

  • Experience in some or all of the following would be advantageous; pavement design and alignment, vehicle restraint systems, landscaping, traffic signals, lighting, pedestrian issues, signs and lining, temporary traffic management or preparing contract documents.
