Professor - Planetary Science



Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (APS) seeks a dynamic scientist with leadership ability and a reputation of excellence in research to fill a tenured, or tenure-track faculty position at the level of Professor in the field of Planetary Science. The appointment will be supported jointly by Hampton University and the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), which is 10 minutes from the Hampton University campus. This NIA Professor will teach courses at the graduate level, in residence at the NIA and HU: recruit, support, and advise masters and doctoral students; and build a portfolio of funded, self-directed research in the general field of planetary science. With the position comes support for one post-doctoral fellow and at least 2 graduate students, additionally, laboratory space will be available to the position in a newly planned facility on the campus of the NIA. The professor will work closely as a member of an integrated team comprised of the NIA's President and Vice Presidents, and the NIA and Liaison Professors of the other member Universities to create a unique research and educational program. Objectives of the APS de-partment include growth in enrollment in the graduate program, addition of course offerings, and expanded capacity for research. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and with the responsibilities of the position.
