University of Nottingham

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Astronomy

School of Physics & Astronomy

Applications are invited for the above post to work with Dr L Dunne in the School of Physics and Astronomy on the Herschel ATLAS - a 550 square degree imaging survey in five bands from 110-500 microns using the Herschel Space Observatory. The project will involve extraction of sources from the Herschel maps and the creation of catalogues through matching UV/optical/IR (GALEX/SDSS/UKIDSS/GAMA/2dF) data to the FIR/sub-mm galaxies from the Herschel survey. Data are available in the ATLAS fields from the UV to the radio and many science projects ranging from local galaxies to the high redshift universe are possible.

A relevant PhD is essential. Previous experience of FIR/sub-mm data analysis and/or multi-wavelength SED modelling is desirable. Salary will be within the range £27,183 - £35,469 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £38,757 per annum, subject to performance). This post is available from 1 April 2009 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr L Dunne, tel: 0115 951 5132 or Email: Loretta.Dunne@Nottingham.ac.uk.

Candidates should send (preferably by Email) a detailed CV, together with a brief description of their research interests and the names and addresses of three referees, to Melanie Stretton, School of Physics and Astronomy, The University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD. Tel: 0115 951 5183. Fax: 0115 846 6070. Email: Melanie.Stretton@Nottingham.ac.uk.
