Lecturer Above/Below the Bar in Astronomy

Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer below/ above the bar in Astronomy at NUI Galway.
The School of Physics offers BSc programmes (including options in Applied Physics, Astrophysics, and Biomedical Physics), MSc programmes (in Astronomical Instrumentation, Key Enabling Technologies, Medical Physics, and Occupational and Environmental Health & Safety), and PhD programmes (in Astrophysics, Atmospheric Physics, Biophotonics, Biomedical Physics, Exposure Science, Laser-enabled Manufacturing, Marine Physics, and Nanomaterials).
The School is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with a strong background in Astrophysics for the position of a lecturer above or below the bar. The successful candidate must have a proven ability to teach across many areas of our undergraduate physics programmes. The successful applicant will carry out their own research programmes in an area related to Astronomy aligned with the School's main research priorities. Preference will be given to those candidates who are considered well-placed to develop externally funded research contracts that leverage existing research strengths in the School. For consideration as a lecturer above the bar, a considerable impact of independent research achievements in Astronomy is expected.
The post holder will deliver high-quality and research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post holder will contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. Moreover, the post holder will achieve recognisable outputs in the areas of teaching, research, and industrial collaboration, commensurate with School's norms, contribute to the enhancement of the national and international profile of the School and achieve recognisable impact upon the academic, commercial, and professional communities.

(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
