The role

You will be welcomed into AstrobiologyOU, an interdisciplinary research group investigating the feasibility of life beyond the Earth, and the associated social, legal and economic implications.

Your role within the group will be to investigate the production of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the sub-surface oceans of the icy moons Europa and Enceladus, under simulated and analogue conditions. This will involve using state-of-the-art simulation facilities at The Open University. These experiments will be used to identify VOCs that are produced uniquely by biotic activity and can be used as a bio-signature for life.

We wish to recruit a highly motivated and driven PDRA with a record of published research or evidence of forthcoming publications.

Skills and experience

You will have a PhD (completed or shortly obtained) in organic, atmospheric or environmental chemistry, microbiology or a related discipline that demonstrates experience of working with VOCs
