Principal Hydraulic Engineer


Location: Warrington
Salary: ŁNEG

Job Description:

  • Experience within the water industry with a focus on Hydraulic Engineering/Fluid Mechanics

  • Experience of producing hydraulic profiles through water and wastewater treatment plants.

  • Experience of the hydraulic design of pipelines including surge analysis

  • Produce and review calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs will provide an appropriate solution.

  • Ensure planned project profitability is achieved or exceeded.

  • Ensure that projects are delivered to the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.

  • Check and review technical content of calculations and reports.

  • Plan, forecast and co-ordinate resources with group managers efficiently.

  • Maintain up to date technical knowledge of survey, design, drafting, project and contract management standards and techniques.

  • Liaise with clients and ensure that programs and projects are managed effectively to ensure delivery in a manner which meets quality, time and budget specifications.

  • Provide technical assistance to staff, including training within specific areas of responsibility and expertise as required.

  • Reviewing the work of others and remaining focused on important priorities.

  • Mentor less senior members of the team.

  • Undertake appropriate research of existing assets and investigation and design modifications / improvements.

  • Assist with the preparation of expressions of interest and proposals as required.

  • Act as engineer’s representative to ensure the works are completed in accordance with the contract documents.

  • Maintain communication and develop ongoing contacts with clients as required

  • Build relationships with new clients and key stakeholders

  • Using appropriate software to provide advice, solutions and successful project outcomes for clients.

Person Specification:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline or maths based discipline.

  • A Chartered Member of a relevant engineering institution i.e. ICE/CIWEM/IMechE/IChemE

  • Experience in Hydraulic Engineering/Fluid Mechanics

  • Strong experience in Hydraulic Engineering.

  • Outstanding skill level in business development.

  • Ability to integrate into a team and provide technical management over other members of the treatment team.

  • Experience in the management of staff and staff development.

  • Experienced level of decision making.

  • Computer literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.

  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral.

  • Excellent client service focus.

  • Exceptional organisational skills and able to multi-task.
