Reference: 10026353
Contract type: Permanent
City: Palaiseau, 91120, France
Education: Associate Degree
Minimum experience: 2-3 years

Company:

Total is one of the first international oil companies, the world actor of the gas, the petro chemistry and tomorrow, the biomass and the solar energy. Gathering 100 000 employees in more than 130 countries, the Group implements its technological know-how to contribute to satisfy the present and future world energy demand.

Position:

TOTAL Gas and Power (TOTAL G&P), one of the four branches of TOTAL, a major international energy company, is dedicated to the commercial development of gas resources and alternative energies (Solar PV, concentrated solar power, advanced biofuels, carbon capture and storage). TOTAL G&P pursues differentiation through technology as the first step towards building competitive integrated industrial operations in these renewable energies.

The ambition of TOTAL G&P is to become the global leader in the solar industry. The company has been involved in photovoltaic energy research since 1983, and leverages an original networked innovation model in order to develop technologies that will make a real difference in the near or mid-term future. The network already includes several partnerships with leading institutions such as the Belgium based Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (Imec) and various start-up companies. In each case, researchers at the partner institution and TOTAL G&P scientists jointly design and carry out the research efforts.

One of TOTAL G&P's most important R&D partners is the Laboratoire de Physique des Interfaces et Couches Minces (LPICM), which is based close to Paris (France). LPICM conducts world-leading research in thin and nanostructured materials for microelectronics and solar application, and develops cutting edge technology for some of the best high-tech companies in the world (Horiba, Philips-LG, Thales). Within LPICM, TOTAL G&P has set up an R&D team jointly with Ecole polytechnique (one of the most prestigious university-level engineering schools in France) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The team develops next generations of high efficiency solar cells and collaborates closely with TOTAL G&P's affiliate, SunPower Corp., renowned for developing the world's most efficient and reliable solar panels.

TOTAL G&P is seeking a Process Technician for Photovoltaic Vacuum Deposition and Processes for the TOTAL-LPICM joint R&D team, to contribute to the development of high-performance solar cells. The candidate will be involved in the processing activities and have full responsibility for the maintenance of a brand-new sophisticated cluster tool housing several vacuum deposition chambers (PECVD, PVD, dry etch). In a framework which is both academic and industrial, he/she will be working under the supervision of expert engineers and scientists, and benefit from technical support from Ecole polytechique. Health and safety is priority within TOTAL, and related procedures are strictly followed.

The roles and responsibilities of the Process Technician for Photovoltaic Vacuum Deposition and Processes will be:

  • Vacuum deposition and processes :
    • Collaborating with engineers/scientists to define vacuum deposition and vacuum recipes and schedule experiments on the equipment.
    • Contributing to the adjustment of vacuum deposition and process recipes (reactor pre-coating, substrate pre-cleaning…).
    • Carrying out processes and tests of chemical treatment of surfaces, following the test schedules and respecting the rules of quality and safety of TOTAL G&P and the laboratory of Ecole polytechnique.
    • Ensuring traceability of completed processes and tests, documentation of test results, checking for consistency and submission of test result reports.
    • Making suggestions to guide the tests.
  • Maintenance:
    • Maintaining the cluster equipment to make sure it is functional, reliable and ready to use (electrode cleaning, shield cleaning, spare part change, stabilized pressure procedure…)
    • Ordering supply spare parts.
    • Evaluating equipment improvement/modification in close collaboration with engineers, scientists and HSE departments of both TOTAL G&P and Ecole polytechnique

Profile:

  • 2 year technical degree or certification in vacuum processing technology.
  • Solid knowledge of vacuum technologies for semiconductor thin materials deposition.
  • Solid knowledge of rules for maintenance of vacuum deposition equipment and components.
