Contract type: Permanent
City:Palaiseau, 91120, France
Education: Doctorate
Minimum experience: 10-15 years

Company:

Position:

TOTAL has been involved in photovoltaic since 1983, and is driven by the ambition to become the global leader in the solar industry. TOTAL New Energies pursues differentiation through technology as the first step towards building competitive integrated industrial operations in photovoltaic energy. In line with this strategy, the company makes important investments in technology research, such as the recent co-foundation of the Institut Photovolta? °que d'Ile-de-France (IPVF), which will be one of the five largest photovoltaic research centers worldwide.

Total NE collaboration with LPICM and SunPower

In order to develop technologies that will make a real difference in the near or mid-term future, TOTAL NE leverages an original networked innovation model. One of the most important R&D partners of the TOTAL NE network is the Laboratoire de Physique des Interfaces et Couches Minces (LPICM), which is based in the laboratories of Ecole polytechnique in Palaiseau close to Paris.

Within LPICM, TOTAL NE has set up a joint R&D team which develops next generations of high efficiency solar cells and modules and collaborates closely with TOTAL NE's industrial affiliate in California, SunPower Corp., renowned for developing the world's most efficient and reliable solar panels.

Opportunity at LPICM

For the joint R&D team at LPICM, TOTAL is searching a Senior Scientist to lead cutting-edge R&D activities in thin material deposition, in particular by CVD, and fabrication processes for high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells. The candidate's successful results will contribute directly to the development of next generation SunPower PV solar cells.

The main responsibilities of the Senior Scientist will be to:

  • Lead and actively participate in research activities in semiconductor materials and fabrication processes for high efficiency crystalline solar cells, in particular CVD processes
  • Lead, coordinate or participate in projects from the research phase (with LPICM) to the development phase (with SunPower) in collaboration with program managers
  • Propose and study innovative technological bricks related to thin materials deposition for crystalline silicon solar cells
  • Build and propose technological roadmaps to support the development of key technologies of next generation products
  • Take part in the transfer of R&D results to pilot production
  • Supervise PhD students and post-docs, provide technical expertise in project and cross-functional Teams
  • Report regularly on the research activity to the management

In an environment driven by SunPower, a highly dynamic and best-in-class company, the candidate will be trusted with stimulating challenges and a large extent of autonomy. He/she will work with first-rate scientists from LPICM, a world-renowned laboratory which conducts leading research in thin and nanostructured materials for microelectronics and solar application, and develops cutting edge technology for some of the best high-tech companies in the world (Horiba, Philips-LG, Thales etc.).

Profile:

Educational background:

Ph.D. in domains related to deposition of thin materials, ideally in CVD processes for crystalline silicon solar cell technology.

Experience

Knowledge and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of photovoltaic experience in a public or private laboratory, preferably including a postdoctoral stint in a laboratory internationally renowned in the field
  • A significant experience in semiconductor deposition techniques, in particular CVD, as well as in materials and interfaces characterization
  • An experience in device modeling, in particular solar cells, would be appreciated

Skills

  • Open-minded, creative
  • Scientific mindset
  • Capacity to work independently and in a team
  • Able to work in an international team environment
