Remote Sensing Researcher: CSIR, Pretoria, South Africa



With the inception of the SA National Space Agency and South Africa's involvement in the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), there are growing opportunities for research and applications development in earth observation.

The Senior Researcher will conduct research into remote sensing / earth observation applications. He/she will address knowledge gaps to derive information from satellite remote sensing data for the benefit of society, e.g. improved natural resource and disaster management. This position is based in Pretoria (South africa) in the Meraka, Remote Sensing Research unit (www.meraka.org.za/rsru.htm).

Qualifications, skills and experience:
  • A minimum qualification of an MSc in natural sciences or engineering.

Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD in natural sciences or engineering with at least two years relevant experience

  • Must have experience in remote sensing or image process research, with a strong quantitative background e.g. computer science, mathematics or physics
  • Must have authored at least one relevant peer-reviewed publication.
