Are you a skilled data modelling specialist with a background in and an understanding of natural capital and landscapes? This exciting ongoing role within CSIRO's Land & Water - Landscape and Forest Function Team could be your next career opportunity!

As the Landscape Scientist and Geospatial Modeller, you will become part of a dynamic team that collaboratively works on a range of ecological challenges and strives to improve the sustainable management of our landscapes through their research. In this role, you will contribute to understanding, quantifying and accounting for natural capital at a range of scales, with a focus on developing and delivering geospatial solutions and data analytics for projects delivering to both the private and public sectors. You will play a key role in enhancing the geospatial capabilities of a suite of process-based models, and will facilitate running these in near real time and in a spatial context, which will enable the integration of independent data sources to create user-friendly products that meet the needs of our internal and external clients.

Your duties will include:

• Undertaking landscape to continental scale modelling and analytics, to support natural capital and environmental and economic accounting, and to support our biodiversity and natural capital risk assessment research program.
• Conducting research that integrates process-based models with contemporary data streams to enhance industry and government decision making capabilities and capacity for risk assessment.
• Developing and using AI & machine learning technologies for landscape analytics and decision making.
• Contributing to and/or leading aspects of scientific projects, including the written and oral communication of results and their implications.
• Liaising with clients to determine their needs and taking personal responsibility for client satisfaction, including addressing problems promptly and in a constructive manner.

To be considered you will need:

• A PhD, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience, in a relevant field such as environmental science, landscape science, geospatial modelling, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated skills in data analytics and mathematical modelling, with proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, C++, Java or other relevant programming languages.
• Demonstrated skills in modelling spatial data and GIS.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, including working constructively with colleagues, collaborators and/or clients.
• A publication history of authorship on scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and/or reports.
