Using GIS for health and safety research; developing your skills in specialist consultancy.
The Health and Safety Laboratory is a unique, multi disciplinary organisation with an international reputation for leadership, research and innovation in the understanding and control of risk to public health arising from all work-related activities. Our GIS specialists provide a wide range of general and specific services to both the Health and Safety Executive - our parent body - and a growing number of customers in the public and commercial sectors.
Rising demand has created a further opportunity to join this team and contribute to its varied project programme. Sharing a portfolio of work that spans research, analysis and the development of methodologies for general and specific applications - and includes running HSE's National Population Database and helping to maintain our national holding of OS MasterMap - you may be involved in providing scientific support, leading projects, preparing proposals, publishing and presentations.
This is an incomparable environment in which to develop your reputation in the application of GIS to health and safety issues and their practical solution. To be considered, you will need a good degree with a high analytical content in either Geography or a related science based subject: experience of MapInfo, ESRI ArcGIS products, GIS applications and data management tools is particularly important. In addition, we are looking for strong planning, organisational, communication and teamworking skills.
