The following professorship has to be filled at the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences of University of Leipzig starting on April 1st,2019:

W3 Professorship “Remote sensing in geo- and ecosystem research”

The successful candidate is distinguished by outstanding expertise in remote sensing of terrestrial geo- and ecosystems and their dynamics. The thematic focus of the offered position lies on the analysis of current transformation processes such us land and ecosystem degradation and on the analysis of areas strongly affected by the ongoing global change. With respect to remote sensing methods and applications, expertise in one or more of the following areas is expected, demonstrated by the candidate’s publication record and a successful acquisition of third-party funds:

  • multitemporal analysis of large-scale satellite data archives integrating active and passive sensor data
  • coupling of remote sensing approaches with process-based geo- and biosphere modelling
  • multiscale 3D-remote sensing (including Lidar/Radar techniques)
  • remote sensing of chlorophyll fluorescence

A regional emphasis of the applicants’ research on a hot spot region of climate change is desirable.

A close collaboration with the Institutes at the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences is expected as well as a substantial contribution to the Remote Sensing Centre for Earth System Research, a novel joint research initiative of Leipzig University and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ).

The successful candidate will actively participate in the study programmes at the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences at Leipzig University, a participation in academic self-governance is mandatory.

Further information about the scheduled Remote Sensing Centre for Earth System Research is given on and
