About the role:

We are seeking GIS professionals at all levels to join our friendly and talented GIS & Visualisation team. In this role you will provide GIS input to a diverse range of projects including ecology mapping, Landscape and Seascape Character Assessment, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Sustainability Appraisal, landscape monitoring and Open Space and Green Infrastructure audits. This will include map production, geographic data analysis and managing field data collection as well as developing tools, processes and reporting. You will be part of an innovative and fun team comprising GIS, graphic design, web development and 3D visualisation experts, involved in some of the most high profile and exciting projects in our field.

And you will be helping shape the future of LUC along the way. LUC is a fully employee-owned business and as an employee you will have a voice and a stake in the success and future of the company via the Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

This role could be based in Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow. We have a hybrid working arrangement which expects an average of two days per week in the office (more if you prefer).

A full time role would be based on 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including some remote working and /or part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.

About you:

You will have knowledge and experience of GIS & Visualisation and will have worked previously in a consultancy, or similar fast-paced environment. If you have the following qualifications, skills and experience we would like to hear from you:


  • GIS or related degree, or a blend of knowledge and qualifications reflecting a similar level of expertise.
  • Practical experience in a consultancy or other non-academic context in data processing and analysis using GIS and Excel.
  • Experience of applying GIS analysis to landscape, planning and wider environmental issues.
  • Experience of ESRI software products, particularly ArcGIS 10, ArcPro and AGOL.
  • A proactive, organised and effective approach to your work and an appetite for diverse projects.
  • The ability to work efficiently and respond quickly to meet deadlines, whilst working on a number of projects simultaneously.
  • Good knowledge of using UK environmental and Ordnance Survey datasets.
  • Have experience of being client facing and working with other external team members.
  • Experience / interest in reporting on your findings.

Any of the following would enhance your application further and/or qualify you for a more senior position:

  • Experience with ArcGIS extensions, including Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst.
  • Knowledge of other GIS or CAD software.
  • Knowledge of graphics packages (Photoshop, InDesign, etc).
  • PostgreSQL database/Geoserver experience.
  • Python scripting, including ArcPy.
  • Experience of manipulating Remote Sensing data.
  • Experience of developing open source web solutions.
  • Project Managing and leading the delivery of a wide range of projects under the leadership of Project Directors.
  • Experience of managing the outputs of others, ensuring they are of high quality.
  • Experience of tendering and work winning.
  • Liaising with and forming a key point of contact for clients, and internal and external team members supporting business development initiatives in line with the LUC Strategy.
