Research Associate in Forest Laser Scanning



Grade F, starting salary £27,578
Closing date: 1st October 2012

A postdoctoral position is available to research the potential of dual-wavelength laser scanning for monitoring of forest health, under a NERC funded project. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading laboratory and field experiments and for developing model-based approaches to up-scaling field measurements of vegetation stress to a canopy scale.

Applicants should have, or be near completion of, a PhD (or equivalent) in a quantitative scientific discipline or have equivalent research experience. Experience in computer programming or scripting is essential and expertise in laser scanning, remote sensing, plant science or radiative transfer modelling is highly desirable.

The post is based in the Geomatics research group within the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Newcastle University, UK.

Fixed term position for 12 months.
