Applicants are invited for the position of Fixed Term Research Officer in Glacier Remote Sensing in the College of Science, reference 6024. The post is available for a period of up to 2 years. To work on a project investigating the processes of glacier calving at the margin of a major Greenland tidewater glacier. This is a research postdoctoral position that will involve a mix of remote sensing, data processing, modelling and fieldwork planning and execution. The post is funded by an NERC Networks of Sensors grant. The project aims to set up a network of wireless sensors on the margin of Helheim Glacier in SE Greenland. The sensors will be emplaced by helicopter and this post is to lead both the processing of the glaciological data and the field emplacement and retrieval of the sensors. The successful applicant will have significant experience of working in glacial environments including crevassed regions. You will have a demonstrated ability to lead in such an environment including decision making with respect to conditions and group abilities. You will also have the ability to lead the analysis of data from GPS sensors, analyse remote sensing data and run models. You will hold a PhD in glaciology or geosciences.
