UCL/MSSL has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher funded by the European Union Framework 7 Space Science Programme within the PROVISG (Planetary Robotics Vision Ground Processing) and PRoViScout projects to join Professor Jan-Peter Muller's Imaging Group who are actively engaged in the development of novel 3D mapping techniques and their scientific application for the surfaces of Mars and the Earth. For Mars, data will be taken primarily from the instruments onboard the ESA Mars Express (MeX), NASA Mars Reconnaisance or biter (HiRise and CTX) and from the Mars rovers (MER and MSL).
The successful applicant for PRoViSG will be engaged for the first 4 months in interfacing software developed by the previous post-holder to the PRoVIP system for stereo photogrammetric wide baseline 3D reconstruction for fusion of multi-station ground-level views as well as develop this software further for fusion with orbital images to provide context for the PRoGIS 3D web-GIS being developed jointly with the University of Nottingham. Software development will include collaboration and further development with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory of a generic 3D stereo workstation and 3D visualization environment.
