Role Purpose

The company is working on a variety of GIS products. The role holder will be involved in development activities for external and internal GIS projects and work closely with technical and business GIS teams.

This will involve:

  • Development of GIS products
  • Work closely with both the business and technology staff to deliver high quality solutions that remain aligned to the product roadmap and overall technology strategy
  • Align to technology and product development policies and best practices

Responsibilities

Working with the Systems & Software Development management and the GIS Technical Architect to deliver GIS products:

  • Translate software requirements into workable programming code and maintain and develop GIS applications
  • Working closely with the Technical architect on GIS development related activities to deliver high quality solutions that remain aligned to the product roadmap and overall technology strategy
  • Ensure any code you write conforms to the coding standards and guidelines for development within the group
  • Suggest any additions to the standards and best practices which would improve them.
  • Continue to maintain and improve technical GIS skills and knowledge.
  • Work as a part of an Agile team, share best practice and ensure high quality work standards are met

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

A passion for technology and technology innovation is essential.

Significant knowledge and proven experience in the following is critical to success in the role:

  • Expertise in Esri ArcGIS suite (including desktop and online products)
  • An understanding of .NET application development
  • An understanding of ArcGIS for Server, its deployment and security models
  • Use of web mapping APIs in web applications
  • Understanding of core principles of GIS and geo-data management
  • Managing and manipulating spatial datasets and experience of working with a variety of data formats in large deployments
  • Translating business requirements into technical specifications and delivering the specified solution

Experience with the following would be an advantage:

  • C# / VB.NET, JavaScript, JQuery, Angular, HTML, CSS
  • Winforms, WPF, Task Asynchronous Programming, MVVM
  • Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, Confluence
  • ArcGIS Add-In extensibility pattern (ArcObjects.NET SDK, ArcGIS Pro .NET SDK)
  • Open source geo-spatial applications
  • Frontend client frameworks
  • Working within an Agile team and geographically spread teams
  • Unit testing / Coded UI Testing / TDD practices
  • Continuous integration and build automation (Continua CI, Finalbuilder, Teamcity)
  • ArcGIS Platform/Pro/Desktop
  • ArcGIS Story-Maps
  • Insight for ArcGIS
  • ArcGIS Maps for Office
  • Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS
  • ArcGIS Data Reviewer
  • GIS Portal

Degree in computer science, GIS, geography, engineering or a related field.
