GIS Data Technician

About Yotta DCL: Yotta DCL is a newly merged company which has a wealth of experience in mapping and imaging technologies. Our core business is providing condition and inventory surveys of the UK road network. Job Role: To liaise with supervisors in data capture and data processing to keep data flowing up and down the production system. To ensure each job is "complete to the specified GIS network", "accurate to the job specification" and "on schedule to meet customer expectations". You will be working closely with the existing GIS Data Technician and be responsible for all video / GPS / GIS data.

Secondary function, desirable but not essential (less than 20% of your time): As the business is still relatively small but growing we are looking for staff flexibility. Ideally the GIS Data Technician will be nominated as the IT and Phone systems "1st line office support" for the new Leamington Spa office. This will involve supporting the basic IT and Phone network, infrastructure and systems. For all major issues you will liaise with group IT service.

  • Managing our GIS database both client side and internal.
  • Optimising the database to run more efficiently (SQL DB experience desirable).
  • Work with other departments to improve the database and data pipeline thus maximise productivity.
  • Manage/validate all captured data (video/GPS) coming into the company and upload to the relevant server/database. Post-process GPS data.
  • Run reports to check that the capture data meet the clients network/asset specification using internal software. Calculate captured network distance, check video quality and ensure all data required is present. Highlight poor quality/missing data to relevant production supervisors.
  • Assist in coordinating data processing (internal or external).
  • Validate all post processed video and GIS data using custom developed software/MapInfo and ARC GIS.
  • Deliver completed GIS layers to client.
  • Monitor all data processing ensuring that all relevant data management tool are utilised, maintained and developed. This includes capacity and resource planning etc,

Provide IT and Phone System / Network 1st Line Support for the Leamington Spa Office. Basic IT networking, systems administration skills desirable.

The Candidate: You will need to be particularly computer literate and an advanced Microsoft Excel and Access user. A degree would be advantageous. GIS experience is necessary.

You will be expected to learn new skills quickly and be fluent in new technology, an excellent communicator that can demonstrate a passion about your subject, be self-motivated and committed to delivering excellent service at all times and understand new and unfamiliar problems and apply past experiences to solve them.
