Seismologist
Become a member of AIR's growing Earthquake team in the Research & Modeling department. You will join a team of seismologists, civil and structural engineers, and other professionals to develop seismic risk analysis models used to estimate losses from natural catastrophes.
Main responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Collect and analyze earthquake related data for constructing regional seismicity models
- Develop regional probabilistic seismic hazard models
- Develop local ground motion site amplification models
- Responsible for technical presentations
- Develop computer codes to simulate complex physical systems
- Conduct probabilistic hazard assessment and modeling
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Solid comprehension of at least two of the following:
- Seismicity studies and seismotectonics analysis
- Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis
- Ground motion attenuation studies
- Local site/soil effects
- Near source effects
- Geodetic studies
- Knowledge of probabilistic analysis techniques
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages, including FORTRAN, 3+ years experience
- Risk modeling experience a plus
- GIS knowledge a plus
Requirements:
- 2+ years of practical experience
- Ph.D. in Seismology or related field
