          Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies
The Geophysics Section of the School of Cosmic Physics, DIAS,
has the following Fellowship available immediately:

SCP13-GEO-1: Schrödinger Fellowship in EM for Sustainable Energy (5 years)
The Geophysics Section of the School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), seeks applications for a Schrödinger Fellowship. The Fellowship will provide promising researchers with a relatively well-resourced, medium-term position in a world-class, research environment from which to launch their academic careers. The name of the scheme honours Erwin Schrödinger, first director of the School of Theoretical Physics and a key figure in the establishment of DIAS. A Schrödinger Fellow is sought to work with Professor Alan Jones on electromagnetic methods, particularly on aspects of magnetotellurics (theory to processing to modelling to inversion to interpretation), with application to Sustainable Energy issues. She/he is expected to take a major role as Technical Leader of the IRETHERM project (www.iretherm.ie) on geothermal energy, and also be involved in the newly-initiating IRECCSEM project (www.ireccsem.ie) on carbon sequestration. In addition, she/he is also expected to develop an independent research programme and to actively pursue national and international funding.

This position is an advanced Post-Doctoral Fellowship and applicants must have a geophysics doctorate and some years prior post-doctoral experience, in preferably electromagnetics but other geophysical fields relevant to sustainable energy will be considered, and a strong publication record with evidence of independent research. It is a five-year post, initially probationary for the first year, with a current starting salary of €50,854 rising to €56,640 over 4 years (subject to review as part of the National Review of pay in the Public Service of Ireland).

Sustainable energy EM fieldwork is primarily in Ireland, but may be abroad as required or desired. Fieldwork can be demanding, and a valid driving licence, good physical fitness, and robust health are all essential.

Start date is preferably as soon as possible, but a start date by the end of the year is acceptable. Applications will be viewed from July 1st 2013 onwards, and the position will remain open until filled.

Applicants should send an e-mail containing full and complete academic CV, statement of current research activities and research interest and vision, and the names of 3 academic referees to:

The Geophysics secretary (geosecretary@cp.dias.ie), School of Cosmic Physics,
Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, 5 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, Ireland
,
quoting the job reference number SCP13-GEO-1 in the subject line.

Applications that are incomplete will be discarded without response. Further information can be obtained by contacting Alan Jones (alan@cp.dias.ie) and through viewing DIAS's web site (www.dias.ie), following the links for the Geophysics Section.

DIAS is an equal opportunity employer.
