Postdoc in InSAR and ground deformation studies

The European Center for Geodynamics and Seismology (ECGS) is an Earth science research foundation supported by the government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The key missions of ECGS encompass fundamental research activities in solid earth sciences, with a particular focus on the disciplines of seismology and satellite geodesy (InSAR, GNSS), as well as seismological and geodetic observatory missions. In this framework, ECGS operates seismic and geodetic networks in Luxembourg and the Virunga Volcanic Province in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as the Walferdange Underground Laboratory for Geodynamics. ECGS closely collaborates with the National Museum of Natural History of Luxembourg through various projects and activities. The permanent team is composed of two seismologists, a geodesist, an engineer and an administrative assistant. A second engineer should join the team soon.

In the context of the expansion of its activities, ECGS invites applications for a Postdoc in InSAR and ground deformation studies.

The successful candidate's responsibilities will consist in the processing and analysis of InSAR and GPS data from active volcano-tectonic regions in Africa and from regions affected by anthropogenic deformations in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. The position may involve field work in Luxembourg and potentially abroad, partly in difficult conditions.

All candidates applying for this position should be motivated to work in an interdisciplinary and international framework.

Qualifications: We seek an outstanding individual holding a PhD in geophysics or a related discipline, with at least three years of experience. Strong mathematical/numerical skills are essential. The candidate should have a strong experience in the use of DInSAR, InSAR time series and numerical modelling and inversion as well as a strong experience in GNSS data processing. Experience in other remote sensing techniques would be an advantage. Excellent programming skills in Python, Matlab or equivalent languages are required.

The candidate is expected to work independently and to collaborate within international projects, requiring initiative, organizational and communication skills, and respect for project deadlines. He/She will also contribute to the organization of international meetings.

We expect the candidate to be fluent in spoken and written, scientific English, and if possible, in French.

Terms of employment: The successful candidate will be offered a 1 year full-time post-doc position, with possible extension. Work location will be Walferdange, Luxembourg. The position involves a competitive salary package.

How to apply: Selection process will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please submit your application either by email to Dr. Nicolas d'Oreye (jobs@ecgs.lu) or by postal mail to:
