Research Scientist (Seismologist)

at the earliest possible date for a full-time position (German TVL-E13 scale) initially for a fixed-term contract of 2.5 years (with the option for extension) in Mainz.


  • University degree (doctorate in geophysics or physics)
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of seismology
  • Ideally, experience with processing and analysis of seismological data as well as numerical simulation of seismic wave propagation
  • Programming skills
  • Ability to perform independent scientific work
  • Mature presentation and organizational skills
  • Very good command of German and English (written and spoken)
  • Driver's license


  • Participation in the project "Characterisation and correction of the influence of wind turbines on seismological networks"
  • Organizing and conducting geophysical field measurements
  • Operation of seismic networks
  • Participation in applying for externally funded projects

About Us

The Institute for Geothermal Resource Management (igem) is a research institute of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, which focuses primarily on the exploration of deep geothermal reservoirs. igem records and evaluates geothermal resources and is working on concepts to improve geological and geophysical methods to reduce geothermal exploration risk. Further fields of activity include geomechanical modelling and seismological monitoring.
