Cat Researcher - Earthquake


We are seeking to recruit a Cat Researcher - Earthquake to join the global cat management team in Fareham, UK.

ROLE

As the responsible researcher for earthquake, you will investigate earthquake hazard related topics and substantially contribute to the improvement of Zurich's understanding and modelling of earthquake related risks.

KEY TASKS

  • You will be the expert on earthquake related hazard for the business, regions and for Senior Management.
  • The core task will be to work with cat modellers and other experts in order to develop a Zurich view of risk for currently modelled and non-modelled regions of earthquake hazard.
  • We count on you to remain on top of earthquake risk related research, to participate in relevant conferences and workshops and to report on relevant emerging new science.
  • You will also be expected to work on other topics of catastrophe risk, including post event analysis and review.
  • Last but not least, you will demonstrate thought leadership in this area by presenting and publishing internally and externally.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative subject or an actuarial qualification,
  • A minimum of two years of research/ development experience in an earthquake hazard related subject (either as part of the degree or from another position).
  • Crucial will be your ability to translate academic research into applicable information leading to improved Cat Management. Your ability to communicate complex results in a clear manner to non-practitioners will be to your advantage.
  • You will have technical skills in programming in a higher programming language (C, C++, C#, Java, Python, Fortran) and some work experience a high level language like Matlab, R or Python. Database skills and Excel/VBA skills are desirable.
  • Further you will profit from the ability to communicate complex results in a clear manner to non-practitioners.
  • You are comfortable in a team physically located in different geographies and you are fluent for both written and spoken English.
  • We expect a highly self-reliant and committed personality with strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills.
  • Some insurance/reinsurance experience would be to your advantage.
