AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals (ANIC) is a major global producer of vacuum salt and a leading producer of chlor-alkali products, caustic lye and derivatives like monochloroacetic acid (MCA). ANIC is essential to the chemical, detergent, construction, food, pulp and paper, and plastics industries. We maintain production sites in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, the USA, and China. To ensure the effectiveness of our Soil Remediation policies and activities, we currently seek an expert and experienced Soil Remediation ManagerThis is a hands-on, project management position and the successful candidate is expected to take independent decisions and actions within an agreed strategy and authority schedule. The position is based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, but you are responsible for the Soil Remediation policies of all our production sites in Europe, as well as being involved with our site in China. As such, you will be present at the production sites several days each month. You will be joining a multinational, multicultural organization that is committed to your personal and professional growth. Responsibilities and objectives Within this context, you are responsible for a number of key activities and tasks as you organize ANIC's soil issues and competencies. Chief among them is determining Soil Remediation policies for ANIC sites, ensuring that sites adhere to these policies. This involves advising the management teams of the business units, sub-business units and sites about strategic soil issues such as corporate directives and standards, mergers and acquisitions, risk assessments, investments and the like. It also requires you to initiate and lead projects around assessment, remediation and prevention, combining AkzoNobel employees and external consultants and briefing the engineering companies responsible for the work. A further key task is to manage and secure the structured implementation of agreed standards and best practices. This involves tracking (changing) laws and regulations and ensuring the correct and timely implementation of regulations at ANIC plants. This includes securing the application of relevant AkzoNobel standards and directives. In addition, you secure compliance with environmental permits of ANIC plants and deliver quarterly reports on environmental liabilities to the BU Management Teams and other stakeholders. In order to achieve all this, you develop and maintain internal and external network of experts, and use the competences of this network to meet the environmental objectives and targets of ANIC. Candidate profile To apply for this position you should be a science/engineering graduate, preferably with a degree or post graduate qualification in environmental sciences/hydrology or a closely related field. You will also have five to ten years of experience in managing site assessment, remediation and prevention, including regulatory negotiation. With this comes in-depth knowledge of environmental issues with respect to soil and groundwater contamination, along with in-depth experience of permitting procedures and maintaining contacts with authorities and stakeholders. Experience in direction setting and policy making regarding Soil Remediation is important, as is management experience in the handling of multidisciplinary teams, including specialist contractors. You possess the maturity necessary to represent AkzoNobel when dealing with government and regulatory authorities, along with the communications skills for developing and maintaining internal and external networks. Needless to say, you possess good advisory skills and the ability to put together effective presentations and reports. You are fluent in written and spoken English, and preferably in German.
