Mutual interactions of organic matter with soil minerals: kinetics, adsorption modes, transformation and stability of complexes
We offer a fully financed fixed term (three years) PhD position at the Department of Soil Chemistry and Pedology at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany). The project "Mutual interactions of organic matter with soil minerals: kinetics, adsorption modes, transformation and stability of complexes" is a joint project with Prof. Benny Chefetz, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Start of the project will be 1.4.2020 or later.
You will carry out lab experiments on the synthesis of soil minerals, their characterization by X-ray diffractometry and infrared spectroscopy, and adsorption experiments of selected organic model substances with soil minerals including their fast kinetics (stopped-flow experiments). You will also study the stability of the associations between minerals and organic models in redox cycles. You will visit the project partners in Israel several times.
Ideally, you hold an above-average master degree in soil science, environmental science or chemistry or any other project-related degree that qualifies for a doctorate in Germany.
The salary will be according to the German public tariff EG 13 TV-L (65%).
