Research Officer - Digital Soil Mapping/Modelling

Department of Agrifood Business and Spatial Analysis, Teagasc, Ashtown, Dublin 15

REPORTING TO: Head of Department and/or other nominated manager

GRADE/SALARY: Research Officer, with a starting salary of €31,729 per annum. The current salary scale is €31,729 to €56,430. Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale. Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy.

POST TYPE: Temporary Funded Contract Post, the indicative duration of which is 32 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled.

BASIC FUNCTION: To support the ongoing development of a predictive soil mapping methodology for Ireland and to implement the model in the development of a digital 1:250,000 scale soil map of Ireland and associated soil information system.

  • To participate in the development of a 1:250,000 scale digital soils map
  • To contribute to the design and build of the Soils Information System of Ireland.
  • To develop and implement data management and data quality protocols for the project

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Qualifications

  • Candidates must have an honours Level 8 degree in geography (with GIS), GI science, or related relevant discipline.

Desirable Qualifications

  • A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in GIS, spatial analysis, soil science, soil mapping or related and relevant discipline would be a distinct advantage
