Contract Research Technologist - Soil Quality

The technologist will have a key role in assisting researchers with the soils research sub-programme at Teagasc, Johnstown Castle. He/she will be responsible for training post-graduate students and post-doctoral researchers in soil quality research techniques/methods. He/she will support research through the use of established and newly emerging methods in the area of soil quality including, field sampling, classification and experimental field design and laboratory based analytical techniques in soil science, specifically focused on soil physical and biological analyses.


  • Support field investigations in the area of soil physics, pedology, soil hydrology, soil chemistry, soil biology.
  • Develop new soil quality techniques in conjunction with researchers.
  • Provide relevant training for post-graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
  • Assist researchers with grant application writing, results analysis and reporting.
  • Support field installation and data recording for a range of soil properties.



Candidates must have a Level 8 degree in soil science/Agricultural Science/ Environmental Biology /Chemistry /Environmental physics or a related discipline.


A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in in soil science/Agricultural Science/ Environmental Biology /Chemistry/ physics would be a distinct advantage.
