Soil Scientist/Agronomist (RTP, NC)


Verdesian Life Sciences is looking for a Soil Scientist with expertise in Soil Chemistry and Crop Sciences to join our RTP lab team. This position is responsible for providing technical expertise, direction and guidance on assigned research and development projects in crop nutrient use efficiency. The incumbent will serve as a principle investigator to identify and develop soil nutrient characterization and evaluation programs that lead to sustainable agronomic solutions to the customers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop critical analysis and evaluation methods for characterizing Verdesian's crop nutrient use efficiency product line, either internally as part of a newly established screening lab or through the use of outside labs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and support business
  • Engage with regional technical development managers in the U.S., Canada and EU to evaluate soil nutrient profile and their relation to crop yield and environmental impacts
  • Routine analysis on soil chemistry and biological products
  • Oversee soil sampling and data collection from various field trial locations globally for laboratory needs
  • Assume the ownership and lead the research activities for the plant growth chambers
  • Working closely with Technology Development Managers to integrate the information obtained in the lab and in the field into comprehensive nutrient management solutions for the customers
  • Interpret and maintain all data in research reports and secure company intellectual property through patent applications
  • Report research findings for scientific and agricultural producer audiences through publications and presentations
  • Renew existing product testing procedures and protocols
  • Assist to improve current product quality and assurance

Criteria:

  • Experience operating and maintaining analytical equipment for soil analysis
  • Familiarity with analytical procedures for soil and plant nutrients
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of roles within the lab, including greenhouse and growth chamber environments
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in a high-paced team environment
  • Strong documentation and record keeping abilities
  • Ability to use programs such Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Data management program such as ARM
  • Ability to multitask and track projects at same time. Ability to work independently and prioritize projects to complete projects per timelines and product commercialization needs

Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated research experience in crop nutrient management and/or soil chemistry within agricultural production or related field
  • Minimum education of MS degree and 2 years' experience in soil science and/or agronomy, PhD degree preferred
