Experimental Fluid Processes ScientistThe British Geological Survey (BGS), founded in 1835, is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and is the world's longest-established national geological survey and the UK's premier centre for earth science information and expertise. A vacancy has arisen for an Experimental Fluid Processes Scientist at our Headquarters in Keyworth. You will undertake laboratory-based research investigating fluid flow and associated hydromechanical coupling in low permeability systems and interpret resulting data in relation to research on the geological disposal of radioactive waste and underground storage, including responsibility for methodology development (using a range of new and existing techniques) and health and safety procedures. In addition you will contribute to written reports and publications for existing projects, present results at project and international meetings and support colleagues in the preparation of new grant and commercial contracts. You must be qualified to degree level 2:1 or above with a significant component of relevant science eg geosciences, rock mechanics, petroleum engineering or relevant engineering discipline. In addition you must have a good knowledge of either rock mechanics and/or multi-phase flow applied to deep geological materials. You must be proficient in the use of MS office and similar software and have strong evidence in time management, project and task completion and meeting of deadlines. In addition you should demonstrate capability in dealing with staff at all levels and be able to communicate clearly (both written and orally). The post involves team working; therefore you should be able to work effectively with others. Depending on qualifications and experience, starting salary for the role will be £26,450 per annum to £29,710 per annum. Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks.
