The Canterbury region in the South Island of New Zealand is a major agricultural contributor to the New Zealand economy. Being a rain shadow area the water resource in the area is a large interconnected groundwater and surface water system. Maximising the use of this resource while maintaining water quality and surface water biodiversity is a huge challenge. This challenge is being met by community working groups supported by science staff from Environment Canterbury.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to take your science knowledge and contribute to this ground breaking transformation of the Canterbury region. As part of a large multidisciplinary team of scientists within Environment Canterbury and the wider science community, you will take your science to the working groups and the community and work with them on a sustainable solution.
