Team Leader - Groundwater Science

A rare leadership opportunity

With its extensive groundwater systems, Canterbury is at the forefront of water management in New Zealand. This is a chance to head a team who play a key role in understanding Canterbury's groundwater resources to support sustainable use.

The role requires highly effective leadership, management and support for a team of six groundwater scientists. Under your leadership, your team will design and implement groundwater resource investigations and provide high-quality technical advice to internal and external stakeholders. Working with our other Groundwater Science teams (we have 21 groundwater professionals in total), you will help us address challenging issues including land use effects on water quality, sustainable groundwater allocation and finding effective ways to share our science and data with the public.

To be successful in this role you will have the following experience and skills:

  • A relevant post-graduate qualification with at least 10 years of experience and a thorough understanding of hydrogeological processes, in terms of both quality and quantity.
  • At least 5 year experience in a team or project leader role in the public or private sector with demonstrated skills in people leadership and collaboration
  • An ability to maintain excellent working relationships at all levels
  • Great time management skills and a proven ability to prioritise work programmes combined with a flexible and agile approach - you will be adept at juggling multiple priorities
  • Experience in facilitating and contributing to diverse groups to reach conclusions by working collaboratively and influencing appropriately
  • A strong focused on delivering outcomes and fit for purpose science
  • Demonstrated experience in Health & Safety practices
