Hydrogeological Position in Africa



GeoQuest is a privately operated professional consulting and contracting company providing technical solutions for the Mining / Mineral Exploration, Environmental and Water Development sectors in Central and Southern Africa.

We have offices in Lusaka, Zambia as well as Lubumbashi and Kolwezi in the Democratic Republic of Congo and have provided expertise to both local and international clients all over the region for nearly 10 years.

GeoQuest is seeking a self-motivated, talented, technically / practically oriented Hydrogeologist to spearhead the onward development of an existing groundwater team.

The position provides a fantastic opportunity to join a growing reputable consulting company that is bringing international technical and operational standards to a developing market.

The position is aimed at developing our growing practice in - water resource evaluations, groundwater supply development, contractor management, and environmental site assessments. Project generation, training and development, management, and client liaison are also important roles of the position.

The groundwater team's support to mining related work is also anticipated to increase significantly.

Ideally we are looking for an individual who has:

  • Preferably an advanced degree in Hydrogeology building upon a geological, civil or environmental engineering background.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years+ progressive experience in conducting hydrogeological investigations and water resource evaluations, designing and testing exploratory and water supply wells.
  • Experience in assessing surface water and groundwater interactions,
  • A desire (including some proven background experience) to manage all aspects of a range of projects simultaneously, possibly over a large geographical area.
  • Client liaison and contractor supervision skills.
  • Proven technical report writing skills with an excellent command of the English language.
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a predominantly Zambian team
  • A desire and patience to strengthen the skills of team members.
  • A mature and confident outlook, as the work requires working in culturally different environments.
  • A willingness to undertake regular field work and travel, (which may include camping out in remote rural locations).
  • A current driving license.

The post holder will report to the Managing Director / Consultant Geologist of GeoQuest and to visiting Hydrogeological Consultants when and where work dictates.

While the post is based at the Lusaka office, it is expected that the position may require significant travel throughout Zambia and possibly surrounding countries. We believe this is a great opportunity to further develop technical and business skills in a wonderful African setting within a stimulating and supportive team environment.
