Senior Scientist for Hydrogeological Research

The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for a Senior Scientist for hydrogeological research for the Water Management Solutions unit in Espoo, Kuopio, Kokkola or Rovaniemi. You will be involved in developing hydrogeological research and services. Your work contains applying and leading high-level research projects as a project manager or as a principal investigator.

You will be working with a Research Professor and a team of experienced researchers. The Water Management Solutions unit has ca. 30 researchers and five research assistants. Our broad focus is on glaciogenic porous (esker) and fractured hydrogeology for potable water, managed aquifer recharge and mining water. In addition, flow, transport and reactive transport modelling, isotope geochemistry and method development are also a major part of our work among others. You will be based in Water Management Team, which concentrates in mine water, but you will work with all the teams in the unit and be involved in all aspects of hydrogeology as well.

What we expect

  • You have a PhD in hydrogeology or in a similar field of research
  • You have a proven success in international or high-level national research funding applications
  • You are an internationally recognized expert in hydrogeology
  • You are fluent in English, both written and oral and have good communication skills
  • You have good networking skills and established international networks
  • You are an adaptable team player but can also work independently. Also, you take initiative and actively advance your work
  • You enjoy in helping the team to succeed
  • In addition, we expect you to be innovative and development oriented

We appreciate

  • Experience in working with clients and designing projects for clients
  • You are an experienced researcher who can act as a principal investigator in Academy of Finland or other scientific funding applications and projects
  • Experience in 3D hydrogeological, flow and/or transport modelling. Your field of science can also be in the effect of climate change to groundwater and/or groundwater systems or mining hydrogeology
  • Experience in European Union Framework projects, preferably in a leading role (e.g.project coordinator, principal investigator or work package leader)

Information about pay

The total salary at the beginning of employment will be approximately EUR 4440 - 5470 per month.
